Yannis also has developed special expertise in the area of EC law and has experience of advising on contractual and regulatory structures for financial products, companies and limited partnerships, investment managers, automated trading systems and other financial services businesses. He regularly deals with regulatory issues arising within the sphere of the Greek financial authorities including, but not limited to, the authorisation and ongoing supervision of banking, investment and insurance businesses, the availability of European "passports" for conducting financial services on a cross-border basis.

In his capacity as the Director of the Minister of State, Dr Yannis Avgerinos participated in the legislative drafting of Law 4146/2013, establishing Greece’s inaugural residence-by-investment program (Golden Visa), and in the formulation of the Fast-Track Strategic Investments regime, creating an accelerated legal framework for the implementation of large-scale foreign direct investments in Greece

Academics & Credentials

Yannis studied law at the Universities of Athens, Humboldt (Berlin) and Harvard. He received his LL.M in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick and his Doctorate (Ph.D) from King’s College, University of London. Yannis is a teaching fellow at the Eurpean Law & Governance School (ELGS), former Lecturer at the Law School, Democritus University of Thrace, former Visiting Lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London, Fellow in EC Financial Services Law at the British Institute of International & Comparative Law (BIICL) and Emile Noel Fellow at Harvard Law School. He was admitted to Athens Bar in 1999.
